The Cardinals fired Jonathan Gannon due to the massive decline in win total from that of a year prior, dropping from 8–9 to a dismal 3–14. It’s incredibly hard to keep your position with a dropoff so great, especially when you’re nearing the end of your contract.

The Cardinals hired Gannon only a few days after he was the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles during their Super Bowl run in the 2022 season.

Over the course of three seasons as Arizona’s head coach, Gannon wielded a 15–36 record with no playoff appearances, immediately deterring upper management.

However, it seems as if Gannon won’t be out of a job for long, as one NFC North team that saw its season end in disappointment has expressed interest in hiring the 43-year-old as a coordinator

Packers’ interested in hiring Jonathan Gannon as DC

To say Green Bay’s season ended in disappointment is an understatement, as Matt LaFleur’s squad ended the regular season on a four-game losing streak. Riding into the postseason with no momentum, the Packers dropped their road Wild Card game to the Chicago Bears 31–27. A game where they blew a 21–3 lead.

To make matters worse, Green Bay lost the man who pushed the buttons on defense in Jeff Hafley, who was tapped in as the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins on Monday.

With that, the Packers need to find their new defensive coordinator, and it seems as if general manager Brian Gutekunst is looking for someone who has seen that role before. This criteria has led him straight to Gannon, who is looking to secure a job for the 2026 season.

Per Mike Garafolo, who reported the Packers’ interest in Gannon. The Dallas Cowboys are also a team to watch out for in the sweepstakes for the former head coach. After all, they are looking to rebrand their defense that was coached horribly by since fired Matt Eberflus.

It will be interesting to see who gets Gannon this offseason.
