The Cardinals announced their intentions to release quarterback Kyler Murray next week, officially ending the run with the organization for the 28-year-old.

Murray released a statement on X regarding the roster move, reflecting on his seven seasons in Arizona:

“To everyone that supported me and showed kindness to my family and I during my time in AZ, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I wanted nothing more than to be the one to end the 77 year drought for this organization, I am sorry I failed us. I wish this community and my brothers nothing but the best. I am no stranger to adversity, I am prepared for whatever’s next. I trust in God and my work ethic. I truly believe my best ball is in front of me and I look forward to proving it. Godspeed.”

Selected with the first overall pick in 2019, Murray got off to a hot start, earning two Pro Bowl selections in his first three seasons. However, he only made the postseason once, in 2021, and the Cardinals lost 34–11 to the Los Angeles Rams.

The five-year, $230 million contract Murray signed in 2022 wasn’t adding up to on-field results, as the Cardinals never won the NFC West with him at the helm.

But amongst zero playoff appearances, Murray gave fans something to look forward to. Being a dual-threat quarterback, highlight plays were his specialty. Whether it was a long run or a flashy pass, Murray had the ability like no other.

It is unfortunate to see it end like this, but as a fan base, we are thankful for the time we had with Murray in the desert.

A youth movement is officially underway in Arizona, and it will be exciting to see what big move Monti Ossenfort makes next.
