As free agency gets further behind us, the focus shifts to the NFL Draft this upcoming April, where the Arizona Cardinals will be picking third overall. To say that they can go in any direction is an understatement, as they addressed most of their glaring needs in free agency, setting themselves up for a “best man available” approach.

Quarterback remains a minor question, although Jacoby Brissett will be rostered for another year, and the addition of Gardner Minshew. While both guys are fully capable of starting, many believe that Arizona could benefit from a full-out youth movement.

Aside from Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, there aren’t many quarterbacks who are worthy of being drafted in the top three.

However, one name in particular has picked up steam over the last few weeks, and he could be targeted in the late first round by the Cardinals. Ty Simpson, who led the Crimson Tide to a College Football Playoff quarterfinal appearance, could be the guy that Ossenfort has on his radar.

One NFL Insider backs the case of the Cardinals drafting Simpson.

“Arizona makes all the sense in the world to me. If I could pinpoint one team, it’s Arizona. Now at pick three, that coffee’s too rich. I cannot see that happening, but then they’re picking at the top of the second round. So if they want to come back into the bottom of the first round, it’d be a pick I could totally get behind.” — Daniel Jeremiah

This would be incredibly fun for Cardinals fans, considering they have the firepower on offense to help Simpson succeed. Trey McBride, Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson, Kendrick Bourne? What else could you ask for?

Will be interesting to see how this story evolves over the next few weeks leading up to draft week.
