The Arizona Cardinals find a tight end that comes up big in time of need

The Arizona Cardinals have had a hard time finding touches for their tight ends.  That’s nothing new as coach Bruce Arians likes his tight ends to block first.

The Cardinals have not had much success this season so far when it comes to their tight ends. Darren Fells has just nine receptions for 61 yards.  Jermaine Gresham has just eight receptions for 74 yards.

Troy Niklas went out for the season, going on injured reserve several weeks ago.  Hakeem Valles hasn’t been the answer either.  Enter Ifeanyi Momah.

Momah, who appeared to be on the verge of making the team out of training camp in 2015, was injured at the end of preseason and had to go on injured reserve and miss the entire season.  He was playing very well at the time.

This season, he competed well once again, only to find himself cut and on the practice squad on the season began.  His time finally came though.

Because of injury, Momah was promoted to the 53-man roster and it’s turning out to be a good deal for the Cardinals so far.  In Sunday night’s 6-6 tie with the Seattle Seahawks, Momah had two huge receptions for 50 yards.  One of them went for 27-yards.

Those receptions were the first two targets he’s seen so far in the four games he’s been on the active roster.  After Gresham struggled a bit catching just two of four targets, Momah heeded the call.

The Cardinals are never going to focus their offense around any tight end no matter who he is. However, given recent injuries that have depleted the Cardinals receiving core a bit, it might not be idea to continue to fee the ball to Momah and see what he can accomplish? The result can’t be any worse than what we’ve seen from others such as Michael Floyd so far.

I know it’s just two receptions so far.  A little taste though can whet an appetite for awhile.
