There seems to be a great debate right now as to the status of the third-string quarterback for the Cardinals.  Many side with Logan Thomas, who played on Saturday night as well but not as well as last week.  Then there is Phillip Sims, the rookie from Winston-Salem State.

Sims, who looked alright in week one, looked better on Saturday night.  He showed poise in the pocket and also showed off his scrambling ability once again.  He was a joy to watch but after the game coach Bruce Arians said neither quarterback had taken the lead in the competition.

There is still debate as to whether the Cardinals even keep a third quarterback.  The prevailing thought is they will keep two quarterbacks and then put one on the practice squad.  The risk in that is you leave that quarterback vulnerable to other teams who can sign that quarterback.

Sims went 8-13 for 82 yards and lead the Cardinals on two fourth quarter drives that resulted in 10 points and tying the game at 19 with 2:56 remaining.  You can’t ask much more than that from a guy playing in only his second NFL preseason game.  Certainly Sims has given Cardinals coaches a lot to think about.
