Malik McDowell has talent, but comes with some question marks

The biggest potential loss in free agency could be defensive end Calais Campbell. The veteran has not only been a very good player, but he’s near and dear to fans, and a big part of the community. If he leaves, it’s going to be hard to replace him.

One of the more polarizing players in this draft class is former Michigan State defensive lineman Malik McDowell. He’s clearly a terrific athlete, and has all the size a team could want. A defensive tackle in college, he can play several spots, potentially, as a professional.

The knock on McDowell is his mental makeup. Some comments, and questions about motivation are haunting him. However, at his workout today, he showed why he could be a great player. His 4.86 40-time was impressive for his size, and his vertical and broad jumps were solid. The caveat for the Cardinals is that they might have to use that first round pick to get him.
