Arizona Cardinals vs Oakland Raiders: The good, bad, and ugly
By Scott Allen
The Ugly:
The Secondary
I feel like a broken record here but unfortunately it is a glaring weakness that rears its ugly head week after week. The Cardinals really need to figure out their cornerback situation.
Brandon Williams again did not look good. Raiders quarterback E.J. Manuel was sharp, hitting on 10-12 for 107-yards and looking good doing it.
The Raiders completed six passes that went for 14-yards or longer, including one for 30-yards and another for 29-yards. Now, those will happen throughout the course of the season but when they start stacking up inside one game, there are issues.
Rookie safety Budda Baker was flagged for a defensive pass interference in the end zone on Oakland’s only touchdown drive of the evening. He’s received some criticism of coach Bruce Arians in practice as well. The rookie is going to have to play better.
No one has stepped up to take the lead on the second starting cornerback opposite Patrick Peterson. The Cardinals and fans are still waiting for Justin Bethel, Tramon Williams, or Brandon Williams to show us something.
Second-year cornerback Harlan Miller doesn’t appear right for the position. Hopefully the Cardinals consider moving him back to safety.
