Matt McCrane, K, Kansas State

Phil Dawson may currently have the starting kicking job in Arizona but he’ll need a push.  The Cardinals made a great choice in bringing in Matt McCrane from Kansas State.

The kid has a lot of awards and accolades behind his name and his kicking.  If Dawson wasn’t here, he could be a shoo-in for the job here.

Be that as it may, it will take a lot to push Dawson to the side.  McCrane though was a 2017 Lou Groza Award Semifinalist.  That award goes annually to the best kicker in college football.

He went 21-26 in field goals in 2017.  He went 57-66 in his four years at Kansas State. He made First Team All-Big 12, selected by coaches and the Associate Press.  ESPN also had him on their All-Big 12 team last season.

The issue could be distance.  He is 2-2 lifetime from beyond 50-yards but hasn’t even attempted one that long since his freshman year at Kansas State.
