Arizona Cardinals: 3 surprises in 2018
By Scott Allen
Korey Cunningham
The rookie offensive lineman rise over the last few weeks surely has been a surprise. Picked in the seventh-round out of Cincinnati, he was targeted to be just a backup in 2018.
Of course injuries helped speed that process along but since taking over a starting role the past five weeks, Cunningham has been more good than not. He’s had his scratch your head moments but its a learning and growing process.
Cunningham now looks to challenge for a full-time starting position in 2019, something if not for 2018, might have taken him a couple of years to achieve, if at all. The offensive line does need re-tooling but he should be part of those re-tooling plans.
He is a very good pass blocker that quarterback Josh Rosen should be happy to have on his side. Despite the six sacks the Cardinals gave up last week against the Atlanta Falcons, there are good pieces on that young offensive line, including the rising star in Cunningham.
