The Backups

Kevin White, Keesean Johnson, Hakeem Butler, Pharoh Cooper

The fight for backup spots in camp at receiver could be the most intense and most interesting of any position on the roster.  There are 11 receivers on the camp roster, with most of them having a shot at making the final 53-man roster in September.

In addition to the four players just mentioned, there is also Damiere Byrd, who came over from the Carolina Panthers.  There is also Trent Sherfield who was on the roster last season and Chad Williams, their third round pick from two years ago.

Undrafted free agent A.J. Richardson out of Boise State may be the one guy right now on the outside looking in.  However you never know what will transpire in camp.

White is trying to make a comeback after struggling to get out of the gate since being drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2015. Johnson and Butler are 2019 draft picks and both figure to make the roster.  It should be exciting to see all three in action this preseason competing.

Cooper has the inside track to getting the seventh receiver spot, if they decide to keep seven, because of his special teams contributions.  Certainly if Sherfield or Williams make it, they will have completely outplayed guys like Johnson or Cooper but it will be hard for them to break the final 53 as well.
