#97 Earl Ferrell

Ferrell was a member of both the St. Louis and Phoenix Cardinals from 1982-1989.  He played his entire career with the organization.

What was amazing about Ferrell’s eight-year career was that he only seemed to get better with time.  His best season was in 1988, the Cardinals first in Arizona.

He carried the ball 202 times for 924-yards and seven touchdowns.  This was during a time when the Cardinals threw the ball a lot.  Their running game as a team was nowhere near the top of the NFL.

However Ferrell ran hard.  That 1988 season he had a 4.6-yard-per-carry average.  For his career he averaged 4.3-yards-per-carry.

Of his 24 career touchdowns, 20 came in his last three seasons.  He had the seven in 1988, but also had seven in the team’s last season in St. Louis in 1987.  He had six in his last season in 1989.

He was another versatile player out of the backfield as well.  His best season receiving was in 1986 when he had 56 receptions.
