Carolina Panthers. 16. team. 87. . 0-1.

The Carolina Panthers played the NFC Champion Los Angeles Rams tough at home on Sunday.  Running back Christian McCaffrey had a huge day.  He carried the ball 19 times for 128-yards and 2 touchdowns.  He also caught 10 passes for 81-yards.

If you’re doing math at home, that’s over 200-yards of offense by one guy.  Still though, it wasn’t enough to beat the Rams.

The closest the Panthers could get the score in the fourth quarter was 23-20 after McCaffrey’s 2-yard touchdown run.  The Panthers defense couldn’t hold and eventually fell 30-27.

Still, it should be encouraging enough for the Panthers going into their week 2 matchup at home this Thursday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Having the benefit of the Thursday night game at home could get this team back to .500 very quick.

Still to keep an eye on will be the health of quarterback Cam Newton.  He was sacked three times and intercepted once against the Rams.  We’ll see how he fares on the short turnaround.
