Arizona Cardinals: 2020 first half team awards
By Scott Allen
Best play
There were some memorable plays looking back on the first 8 games of the season. All three phases of the game, offense, defense, and special teams had nominees for the best play.
Arguably the best offensive play was the 80-yard pass from Kyler Murray to receiver Christian Kirk in the second quarter against the Dallas Cowboys. It was the first play of the drive. The score put them up 21-0 at the time.
Looking at the defense, there are a lot of plays that look huge to us. The best one has to be the interception of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson by Cardinals linebacker Isaiah Simmons in overtime in their 37-34 victory.
On special teams, the best play comes from the same game. Kicker Zane Gonzalez nailed a 44-yard field goal to send the game to overtime then hit a 48-yard field goal to win it.
Overall, the best play winner of the first half goes to the Kirk touchdown reception though. It was the absolute right call at the right time to put the game out of reach early. We would love to see it again a few more times in the second half of the season.
