A Division Rival Is Experiencing An Issue That Could Be Solved By A Cardinals-Like Approach

The Arizona Cardinals, and general manager Monti Ossenfort in particular, have been ridiculed constantly over one element of their roster. That is the fact that they have three quarterbacks rostered, and none of them seem to be in the team’s long-term plans at the position.

Arizona already has Jacoby Brissett under a new, restructured contract that was agreed upon shortly after Brissett no-showed Organized Team Activities (OTAs). The team also brought in journeyman Gardner Minshew, who appeared in four games with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2025.

The most shocking move of them all was when Ossenfort chose to select, what some people call, a reach and select University of Miami quarterback Carson Beck in the third round at pick No. 65. Fresh off a national championship appearance with the Hurricanes, the club took a gamble on Beck to provide more competition in training camp.

This is one aspect of the Cardinals that one divisional rival wishes they had.

So far in sunny Southern California, the depth at the quarterback position behind Matthew Stafford has been subpar. Obviously, Stafford himself is otherworldly, but his backups haven’t provided that spark in the quarterback room. This isn’t a great thing, considering that Stafford is old and isn’t exactly the most durable signal caller. Although he has stayed healthy over the course of the past few seasons.

Stetson Bennett, who was selected in the fourth round in 2023, hasn’t exactly been that sure a thing. But he is light-years ahead of Ty Simpson, who was selected at pick No. 13 in this past year’s draft.

L.A. could use a little more depth right now, something Arizona has.
