One of the biggest questions heading into the offseason, aside from quarterback, was what the Arizona Cardinals planned to do at running back. After a disappointing 2025 campaign from the running back room that saw plenty of injuries, it was clear that something needed to change.
After re-structuring the contract of James Conner, general manager Monti Ossenfort made a second move to sure up the running back committee.
The Cardinals signed former Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier to a two-year contract worth $12.25 million. A move that adds more depth to the position that seeks better production in 2026.
Allgeier was selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL draft and tallied over 1,000 yards in his rookie season. He also found the end zone three times.

However, Allgeier’s time as RB No. 1 came to an end rather quickly, as the Atlanta Falcons ended up selecting University of Texas standout Bijan Robinson with the No. 8 pick in 2023.
Sharing a backfield with Robinson, Allgeier saw his snap count drop mightily, and he was only used as a situational back, which tended to be on downs of short distances.
In the remaining three seasons in Atlanta, Allgeier appeared in every game and racked up 1,841 yards with 15 touchdowns. Boosting his market value at the perfect time before testing free agency, and ending up in Arizona.
Allgeier provides new head coach Mike LaFleur with a durable option at running back for two full seasons, as he has never missed an NFL game due to injury.
This is a solid start for Ossenfort, as he knocked out a position of need without overpaying, and it will be very interesting to see what he has in mind for his next big contract.
