After announcing his withdrawal from Texas Tech amid the gambling-related suspension, quarterback Brendan Sorsby made his plans clear that he would be going to the Supplemental Draft, in hopes of being able to be on an NFL roster for the 2026 season. Honestly, fair enough, considering his stock couldn’t rise or fall this year in college.

Originally granted an injunction, the NCAA received significant backlash over the ruling, with many Big 12 teams (the conference Texas Tech plays in) threatening to remove them from their schedules in 2026.

With all the outcry and rightful backlash, Sorsby announced that he would leave Texas Tech and immediately attempt to reach the NFL following his junior year at the University of Cincinnati. With the Bearcats, Sorsby put up a respectable stat line, accumulating 2,800 passing yards and 27 touchdowns to only five interceptions.

With Sorsby attempting to go to the NFL through a different pathway, analysts gave the Cardinals a soft shout as a potential landing spot for the 22-year-old. Except…

On June 23, the NFL ruled that it would not be holding a supplemental draft, and that would mean that Sorsby would be unable to enter the league until the 2027 NFL Draft. Sorsby and his legal team plan to sue the NFL, claiming that the decision is a violation of CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) and the law.

It may be June, which is the boring season around the NFL. But this has been by far one of the most impactful storylines around sports as a whole.

Safe to say, however, it looks like the starting quarterback of the Cardinals in 2026 is currently on the roster for training camp.
