Well, the free agent period officially began this morning at 12:01AM EST, and we all knew that after the season that Calvin Pace had at OLB that he would draw significant interest from alot of teams out there. Now Foxsports.com has just put out a preliminary report that the Miami Dolphins are going to make Pace an offer this year similar to those seen by LBs Adelius Thomas and Joey Porter last season, somewhere in the neighborhood of $30+ million. Well as Mike correctly predicted last week, the Cardinals low balled OL Elton Brown and offered him a paltry $927,000 offer today.  If another team matches or beats that, then the Cards will get a 4th round pick in return.  They also decided not to present Darryl Blackstock an offer.  The idea in all of this is to save room for Larry Fitzgerald.  Let’s see if the moves pay off.  I was reading on Yardbarker last night that someone thinks Fitzgerald is on his way to Philadelphia and they would dump CB Lito Sheppard to make cap room for Fitz. Then [...]

I actually wrote the last article on Wednesday, but time stamped it to post on Friday, so I hope you guys didn’t read it and think that I was an idiot for writing about stuff that had already happened. In moves not unexpected, the Cardinals cut three players today.  Terrance Holt, Oliver Ross, and Chris Cooper were all cut in order to save salary cap room.  They may not be the last either.  Depending on who you believe, the Cardinals are still going to be close to the cap.  The NFL Network even says the Cards will be over the cap.  General Manager Rod Graves says not true.  So, someone’s math isn’t correct.  Honestly, as long as they have enough room to get their draft picks signed and maybe a few decent free agents at a reasonable low cost, then we [...]

Something refreshing came out of Cards camp today and no it wasn’t a player coming out of the shower.  It actually was the news that someone took a paycut to stay with the Arizona Cardinals.  Unexpectedly Bertrand Berry decided to remain with the Cards.  In order to do that, he had to take a significant paycut. This tells me a couple of things.  First and foremost, either Berry felt like the Cards were going in the right direction and he decided to stay for less or he felt like he wouldn’t get the attention in the free agent market he got back [...]

13, 12, 7, 21, 13.5, 25.2, 26.6, 3.5, 21, 1, 18, 20, 5, 27.1, 31.6, 16.3, 5, 25.3, 27, 21.6……… These are some of the numbers (in millions) of the salary caps that current NFL Franchises have right now. The Arizona Cardinals current projected cap space is close to $30 million. Looking at that list, only one other team has more Salary Cap room than the Cards, and that is the Tennessee Titans with $31.6 million. And we don’t have enough money to address our needs? The best moves the Cardinals will probably make this off season will be the in-house moves to retain current talent.  I was reading today about the problems the Cardinals face in restructuring a new deal for Larry Fitzgerald and how they won’t have much money to go after a top notch free agent.  This could prove troublesome once Calvin Pace tests the market and someone gives him a lucrative deal.  The Cardinals will, in my estimation, probably have to let him go.  I also read that the Cardinals are currently about $30 million under the cap, but still have 19 roster [...]

Mike Florio from the Sporting News is predicting that the Cardinals could face a potential problem with Larry Fitzgerald’s contract. 6. Over the last couple of days, Mike has got us excited about thinking about the 2008 draft and the Cardinals needs (great posts by the way Mike!)  It’s been hard to ignore though just how much the Cardinals have had a hand in this years Super Bowl.  I must say it was a little strange seeing pictures of the Giants taking over the Cardinals training facility in Tempe.  It is awful nice of the Giants to say they are in awe of the facility.  The facility opened in August 1990.  For this facility to still be considered one of the [...]
