The Cardinals signed several more players this week, including the addition of OLB ex- Pittsburgh Steeler Clark Haggans. I guess it was his turn in the wheel of ex-Steelers to make their way west to play for head coah Ken Whisenhunt. Not the most exciting signing in the world, but the Cardinals don’t have much available out there either.
They also signed WR’s Ahmad Merritt and Jereheme Urban, DE’s Joe Tafoya and Bo Schobel. OL Elton Brown signed his one year tender offer and WR Sean Morey also signed.
Merritt showed promise early in the pre-season last year until getting hurt. [...]

2008 NFL Mock Draft
Team
1st Round
1. Miami Dolphins – Chris Long, DE, Virginia
The Dolphins could go many ways here, but ultimately Parcells goes with the best available player
2. St. Louis Rams – Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State
Gholston’s combine number are hard to ignore and he fits well into St. Louis’s defensive scheme
3. Atlanta Falcons – Jake Long, OT, Michigan
Long is the pick here unless he is already taken. In that case, Gholston is the pick. Hard to see Long not in the top 3 picks though.
4. Oakland Raiders – Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy
Call it a hunch. Sure, RB Darren [...]
Boldin Trade Rumors Beginning….
Well, like we all knew, the Arizona Cardinals just transferred all of their issues concerning contract extensions and possible trade rumors from one of their pro bowl wide outs, Larry Fitzgerald, to their other pro bowl receiver, Anquan Boldin. As expected, teams are taking notice of the situation out here in the desert and will probably look at this as an opportunity to drive a wedge between Quan and his loyalty to the Cards franchise.
ESPN analyst Matt Mosely’s published a report on Monday 17 March 08, discussing the nightmarish possibility of Boldin leaving for Big D to team [...]
Johnson Signs with 49ers
Speaking of receivers chasing a payday…..WR Bryant Johnson has signed a new contract with the San Francisco 49ers. Wow, I will be honest, I never saw this coming. I knew he was looking to go elsewhere, however, I never imagined he would be moving west to the Niners.
I’m a little surprised at this move. I had heard rumors of several teams that were trying to vie for his services, the Niners not being one of them. This move only tells me one thing – he was chasing the money. I understand the Cardinals weren’t going to be able to offer him [...]
What About the Quan?
Anquan Boldin that is……oh yeah, the Arizona Cardinals other prolific 2 time pro bowl receiver who holds 3 NFL records in just his first 5 seasons in the NFL. Yeah, that guy.
Well after Larry Fitzgerald signed his monster contract on Tuesday, with over $33 million in guaranteed money, immediately people started wondering about Q and what it meant for him. Basically it means that the Cards are going to be faced with the same problems in two years, when Boldin will be 29 years old (and most likely have been to another pro bowl, which would make 3 [...]
The wait is finally over! WR Larry Fitzgerald signed a four-year, $40 million contract earlier today. I’m a little surprised it came together, given the fact the Cardinals wanted Fitzgerald to sign for six years. However, I’m sure there was concern over losing him for basically nothing. The way Fitzgerald has performed, he deserved to get his way. Included in the deal is a $15 million signing bonus. This deal will free up some much needed cap space.
More to come later about the best news to come out of Cardinals camp since the off-season started.
Go Cards!
Scott Allen
AZScott
With DE Travis LaBoy being the only real free agent signing of the offseason for team so far, and with Larry Fitzgerald’s contract talks idling in neutral, it appears that the Arizona Cardinals have settled on one course of action: focusing on the draft!!!
Let’s face it, until Fitz’s new contract becomes a reality we have no way to entice any new veterans to the clubhouse. Signing LaBoy was a big pick up. Like Scott mentioned, this guy can flat out play. He is big, strong, fast, athletic and tough, exactly the type of player you want locking [...]
Free Agency Roundup
The Cardinals were somewhat busy this week in trying to fill voids created by players leaving or inconsistencies at certain positions.
First was DE Travis LaBoy, who the Cardinals snatched from the Tennessee Titans. I’ll be honest, not following the Titans all that closely, I really didn’t know much about LaBoy. After I read more about him and his 2007 stats, I liked what I saw. He managed 6 sacks in 12 games played. He also had 1 INT and 1 Forced Fumble. He fills the void of Calvin Pace.
Second pickup was P Dirk Johnson. He most recently punted for the Chicago [...]
A Night Cap With Warner
I read today Cardinals QB Kurt Warner and the team are talking possible extension. The team says talks are in the early stages, however there have been discussions. This move can only be a win-win for the Cardinals and quite frankly, Kurt Warner as well.
Warner is going to be 37 before the season starts. If he can go another year or two and finish his career here, QB Matt Leinart will be all the better for it. Sure Warner is getting older and he isn’t the same QB he was in 2000 and 2001. I’m sure Warner would even admit [...]
A Moment Of Favre
Just as I’m sure many of you were, I was surprised Brett Favre retired today. The way he played this past season, I was sure he was going to give one more go-around. One play in particular sold me on the idea he was still playing near the top of his game. If you go back to the Monday Nighter against Denver and the fantastic finish in OT, that pass told me he was not ready to give it up yet. I have a lot of memories of Favre. He won his Super Bowls, he had his ups and his [...]
