James Summers, RB, East Carolina

Summers is a versatile back, much like what the Cardinals have in Andre Ellington and David Johnson. Summer could see time returning kickoffs.

He rushed for 869-yards last season and seven touchdowns on the ground. He also caught 19 passes for 109-yards and a touchdown.

He’s more the size of Johnson at 6’3, 209.  He doesn’t carry as much weight as Johnson but he is a bigger back than Ellington is.  Ellington is being converted by the Cardinals into a receiver in 2017.

That could also open the door for Summers to compete for a backup running back role.  He’d start off behind Johnson and presumably Kerwynn Williams and T.J. Logan.  Logan was drafted by the Cardinals last week.

Running back Elijhaa Penny is also in the mix.  He spent most of 2016 on the practice squad.  Don’t be surprised if Summers finds his way to that roster as well.
