The Arizona Cardinals signed Tyler Allgeier to a two-year, $12.5 million contract right as free agency opened, and managed to fill one of the biggest needs on offense.
In 2025, the Cardinals could not seem to get anything going in the ground game, and injuries were a major part of that. Over the course of a 17-game season, Arizona managed to see three running backs hit season-ending injured reserve.
The first and by far the biggest blow was James Conner, who sustained a foot injury in Week 3 that sidelined him for the entirety of the season. Follow that up with season-ending injuries to Trey Benson and Bam Knight, and that’s a recipe for disaster.
The Cardinals were able to compensate for the losses midseason by bringing in Allgeier in free agency, and while this seems like the right move, one major media outlet believes that Allgeier signed with the wrong team.

Bleacher Report believes that Allgeier could’ve benefited by singing elsewhere, providing the following rationale.
“The Arizona Cardinals have a crowded running back room. They restructured lead tailback James Conner's contract and re-signed Bam Knight, who started in eight out of 12 games last year. Trey Benson has two more terms left on his deal. Unless the Cardinals trade Benson, Allgeier isn't a necessary addition to their backfield. Both are limited in the passing game and handle most of their touches on early downs.” — Moe Moton
Everything that Moton said is 100% true, but do we really believe that Trey Benson is going to win the job over Tyler Allgeier for running back No. 2? Allgeier has been one of the biggest constants over the past three seasons for the Falcons, appearing in every game.
We have a hard time believing this, but who knows, maybe Bleacher Report is right on this one.
