Kickoff weekend, Thanksgiving TV Games Announced

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Cardinals | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The NFL announced on Monday which teams would be playing on national television on opening weekend and Thanksgiving.
Kicking things off will be the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the Tennessee Titans on NBC Thursday September 10th.
On Sunday September 13th, the Chicago Bears take on the Green Bay Packers on NBC.  On Monday night, ESPN will host a doubleheader with Buffalo at New England and San Diego at Oakland.
On Thanksgiving, the NFL decided to keep the Lions and Cowboys traditional home games.  Detroit will face off against Green Bay, while Oakland visits Dallas.  The night game on NFL Network will [...]

Quiet on the Cardinals Front

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Cardinals | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Not much new to discuss this week.  Other than Bertrand Berry and Elton Brown signing new deals, the Cardinals have been relatively quiet in their dealings over the past couple of weeks.
Now it’s time to start thinking about the draft.  What will be available for the Cardinals at number 31 of the first round?  If they end up trading Anquan Boldin, it is possible that number 31 might not be the only first round pick.
Go Cards!

That’s the Price We Pay

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Cardinals | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Cardinals announced that they are raising prices on all lower seat levels for the 2009 season.  However, if you are an upper deck fan, you will still feel like you are living in 2008.  Prices are staying put for the $25-$50 seats.  That suits me just fine – that’s where I sat for two of the three games I got to this past season.  There is no bad seat in the house.
Given the tight economy, this was a good move by the organization.  You figured they had to raise some seats after the Super Bowl run.  With their poularity [...]

A Trip For the Troops

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Cardinals | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald took a trip last weekend to Iraq and Kuwait to visit the troops. He was part of a four player group that went over to see the troops.
The players, which included Fitzgerald, the Vikings Jared Allen, the Giants Danny Clark, and St. Louis Rams Wil Witherspoon all went over to meet the troops, shop at the base exchange, and eat with them. They were as excited about meeting the troops as the troops were about meeting them.  Apparently though Fitzgerald had to talk Allen into going, however Allen, once there, was excited to be there.
This further [...]

Cards Sign McFadden

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Cardinals | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Well if you can’t beat them,  sign them to a contract.
The Cardinals signed former Steelers cornerback Bryant McFadden to a two year contract on Sunday.  He is expected to compete with Rod Hood for a starting spot.
I like the move.  His agent is none other than Drew Rosenhaus. He said that he felt like McFadden is an $8 million guy a year, although he agreed to $5 million.  He felt that if McFadden hadn’t been injured and missed six games in 2008, he’d be getting the $8 million.  Really?  Interesting. Well, I hope he does produce like an $8 million [...]

Breaking: Warner Signs With Cardinals

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Cardinals | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The wait is over.  Kurt Warner is officially back in the fold.  Warner signed a 2 year $23million contract today with the Arizona Cardinals. $19 million of that is guaranteed after receiving a $15 milloon signing bonus.
Excellent.  It sounds like the Cardinals changed their stance and realized Kurt’s value to this organization.  This contract likely means that Warner will retire an Arizona Cardinal.  What it also means is now I would expect Matt Leinart to pop up soon and request a trade.  I hope he doesn’t.  I realize it would be two more years as a backup.  Let’s remember though that [...]

Say a Prayer

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Cardinals | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Please say a prayer tonight for missing NFL players Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith and their friend Will Bleakley.  The three as most of you know have been missing at sea since Saturday.
As of this evening, the Coast Guard has called off the search.
Cooper’s father, Bruce, as many know, is a sportscaster here on KPNX (NBC).  Marquis Cooper went to Gilbert Highland High School and is from right here in Mesa where I am.  There is a vigil tonight at his grandfather’s church right around the corner from where I live at Central Christian Church in Mesa.
I remember almost 20 [...]

Warner Makes Offer To Cardinals

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Cardinals | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

The Kurt Warner saga continues.  Today Warner counter offered the Cardinals by offering $23million for 2 years.  As part of that offer though, $12 million is guaranteed, $6 million for each year of the contract.  Also, if the Cardinals extend Anquan Boldin, he’ll donate $1 million per year of that deal to Quan. Wow, well Warner clearly is doing what he can to stay.  He was reportedly offered more money in San Francisco, however, the offer made today tells me his first choice is still Arizona.  Are the Cardinals brass listening?
The topic has been a hot one on local radio [...]

It’s Just An Illusion

AUTHOR: Scott Allen | IN: Cardinals | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

During the entire month of February Kurt Warner and the Arizona Cardinals both said all the right things.  Kurt said he wanted to stay and if he didn’t stay, he was retiring.  The Cardinals said that Kurt was their man and they wanted him here.
I think the 80’s group “Imagination” put it best…

Yeah
Hoping that I’ll never have to say
It’s just an illusion – illusion – illusion.
