Seven days until game one. Today is the last non-NFL Sunday and day one of most teams preparing for game one of the upcoming season. The NFL season kicks off in four days in New York.
So, time to meet your 2008 Arizona Cardinals.
Quarterbacks: Kurt Warner, Matt Leinart, Brian St. Pierre – It was nice to see the Cardinals carry three quarterbacks this season. If there was one knock on the the roster last season it was the Cardinals were left to scramble when both Leinart and Warner were hurt. That left Tim Rattay as the only available option. Tim Hasselbeck [...]

The Turk Has Spoken
The Cardinals made their cuts. Most of the cuts went the way I expected with a few exceptions. Here is a complete list of the players cut:
Steve Baylark, Chris Vincent, Kelly Butler, Carlton Medder, Peter Clifford, Jasper Harvey, Jamaica Rector, Alex Shor, Brent Miller, Anthony Morelli, Michael Adams, DeMario Minter, Dennis Keyes, Travarous Bain, Jason Banks, Keilen Dykes, Chris Harrington, Brandon Moore, Matt Stewart, Joe Tafoya, Lance Long, and Pat Ross.
Ross is a little bit of surprise, given the lack of depth at the center position until injured starter Al Johnson returns. Azcardinals.com though is reporting Reggie Wells would likely [...]
D-Day
As I wake up this morning to another season of college football, I also am not forgetting that today is the end of the road as far as hundreds of NFL players go. Today teams must cut their rosters down to 53. As far as the Cardinals go, some calls will be tough while others are locks to be cut.
A look at the skill positions:
Quarterback: The Cardinals most likely will carry three QB’s this season. Matt Leinart and Kurt Warner, at least not publicly, have been told who will be the starter next Sunday. My guess is coach Whisenhunt will [...]
So, at least it was the fourth preseason game. It was the final tune-up leading to the regular season opener in San Francisco next weekend. If this was a regular season game, I’d be a little more than worried about the state of Arizona Cardinals football. However you cut it, the Cardinals lost to the Denver Broncos this evening 28-14 at University of Phoenix Stadium.
Kurt Warner may have started at quarterback, but he didn’t play long. Matt Leinart received the bulk of the work before giving way in the second half to Brian St. Pierre and Anthony Morelli. After Warner [...]
I’m sure your first thought is, “I know who Len Pasquarelli is, but who is Matt Williamson and why do I care he is being mentioned in this blog?”
Well Len Pasquarelli of ESPN and Matt Williamson of Scouts Inc. are the only two of 16 “experts” who made their NFL predictions on ESPN.com today. Both of the aforementioned predict Arizona will win the NFC West. The other 14 all selected Seattle. Where are the votes for St. Louis and San Francisco? Ok ok, you can stop laughing now.
The usual picks of Dallas, San Diego, Indianapolis, and New England were all [...]
Just Kidding
Well, apparently Ken Whisenhunt didn’t say Warner was the starter for opening day. At least that’s the spin he’s putting on it now. He said he doesn’t know where ESPN got their information. He stated the reports were erroneous. Ok, I guess ESPN is now a bunch of liars? I love the spin coaches put on media reports.
I’m fairly sure the information was valid and came from someone within the Cardinals organization. Last time I checked, ESPN wasn’t in the business of making stories up. That I am sure of.
I’m still convinced Kurt Warner is the starter for week one. [...]
Much has been written, talked about, and mulled over in sports bars this off-season about who the starting Cardinals quarterback should be. It’s been really one of only two public competitions taking place in Cardinals Camp, the other being the third receiver spot. The competition though may have come to an end, at least temporarily, after Matt Leinart’s poor performance this weekend in Oakland.
As you know by now, ESPN has been reporting Kurt Warner has been tapped as the starting quarterback, at least for the San Francisco game on September 7th. You notice I said at least [...]
Well, that didn’t take long.
ESPN.com is reporting that Kurt Warner will be named the starting quarterback for your Arizona Cardinals over third year quarterback Matt Leinart.
I’m not so as much surprised by the decision as I am the timing. I really thought coach Ken Whisenhunt would let Leinart try to redeem himself in the first half of the upcoming game against Denver on Thursday. However, as poorly as Leinart played last night, I think his fate was sealed. Leinart has been questioned on his arm strength and there was no more proof of the lack of arm than in his [...]
The first half of tonight’s game more resembled a few friends getting together for a rumble in the park for some touch football rather than a couple of NFL teams getting together for a preseason football game. Nevertheless, the Arizona Cardinals took over with strong running game in the second half and rushed their way to a 24-0 victory over the Oakland Raiders Saturday night in Oakland.
Matt Leinart had a very poor showing, getting lit up with three interceptions. Yet, Oakland could not find themselves crossing the goal line all night, even after reaching a 1st and goal after an [...]
Preseason week three this weekend finds your Arizona Cardinals taking a trip to the bay and taking on the Oakland Raiders.
What to watch for: This is the last game before the first round of cuts that are due by Tuesday. There probably won’t be a lot of surprises made in this week’s cuts, however, it doesn’t make it any less important for the five guys that are going to be cut. For those not making this team, it is still an opportunity for players to shine and possibly hook with another team before opening day.
Who you will see [...]
